Real Steel History

In 2018, the U.S. Marine Corps replaced the M40 sniper rifle (in service since 1966) with the British-made AI Mk13 MOD 7, which went on to reach full operational capability by 2019.

Manufactured by UK-based Accuracy International, the Mk13 MOD 7 sniper rifle is used by the US Marine Corp’s elite tactical sniper unit, MARSOC – as well as other special forces groups – due to its adaptability and long-range precision.

MCSC's Major Mike Brisker said of the Mk13: “When shooting it, the bullet remains stable for much longer. The weapon gives you enough extra initial velocity that it stays supersonic for a much longer distance than the M40A6.”

The bolt-action Mk13 MOD 7 long-range sniper has also major seen real-world action in both the Iraq and Afghan wars.
